LSM offers full day Junior and Senior Senior CASA Programs intended to prepare children with the skill-set for future schooling and to create a smooth and successful transition to elementary school. Senior CASA has become LSM’s most popular program. Children join the Senior CASA Program based on age, approximately by 3.8 years or based on the child's development level.
Auditory skills, phonics reading skills, writing practice, Mathematics concepts, Science and Geography experiments, class projects and fieldtrips are consolidated into the Senior CASA Program Curriculum. The aim of the program is two-fold. One is to prepare children with the academic and social skill set required by the Ontario Ministry of Education for transition to elementary school. Second is to set children ahead of the basic requirements by allowing them to grasp advanced concepts using Montessori materials and teaching techniques which will lead them to excel in future school years.
As children turn four years old, many parents are concerned about transition to elementary school. A growing concern noticed in elementary schools is that children often struggle with academic concepts in Math, Science and Language along with social skills such as self-confidence and public speaking. We feel that this struggle can be avoided when children attain a solid foundation throughout these important learning years. Completing Senior CASA at LSM will ensure your child gets a smooth transition and stands out in terms of excellent academic and social preparation.
The key advantage that sets the LSM Senior CASA Program apart from public school is the staff to child ratio. We maintain a 1:8 or 1:10 ratio as compared to a 1:20 ratio followed in public school programs. Senior CASA instructors focus their time and attention to provide a solid foundation of social values and a high self esteem in the children. In this imperative stage of learning, the lower ratio allows us to focus on each child individually and to prepare him/her with an invaluable foundation of lasting academic and social skills. We ensure low child to staff ratios so that your child gets the advantage of being well prepared. LSM instructors have the opportunity to concentrate on presenting detailed Math, Science, and Language materials and projects to children so that they can attain a strong foundation in these “basics”. Success starts with a strong foundation in all areas of early learning.
Children that graduate from the LSM Senior CASA are notably well prepared. They have mastered reading, writing, addition, subtraction, practiced conflict resolution techniques, teamwork, enjoyed art and music and begin to think about the world in terms of inter-related facts. They have developed not only a spontaneous love of "work" but more importantly a positive self confidence and problem solving skills to act as a cooperative and skilled group member in first grade. This development is the aim of our Montessori program and inspires an attitude that is beneficial for a lifetime -- respect for self, respect for others and respect for the environment.
