The decision about what to do for your child when they are close to school-age is a tough choice for many parents. The most important thing you can do as a parent is to gather all the information possible in order to make an informed decision about what is best for you and your child. There are, however some crucial differences between LSM Senior CASA and public school which we believe are important to consider when making this decision:
To help you with some of your questions, we have put together the following information. If you have any other questions please feel free to discuss them directly with the Director.
Do you offer programming for 4 to 6-year-olds?
Yes. Our children complete the Senior CASA program for direct transition to French or English immersion grade 1. LSM Senior CASA Program has become renown in the Ottawa area for close to a decade due to its excellent academic preparation. We offer a full Junior and Senior Senior CASA program in compliance with the Ministry of Education requirements with a curriculum that exceeds what is offered in the school systems.
What types of programs are offered in the school system and at LSM?
The school systems offer 2.5 hour morning or afternoon classes. Some schools are have also started to offer the new Full Day sessions for four and five year olds from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a possibility of space in a before and after school program at a moderate cost to parents. However, most schools will not offer this additional early-morning and after-school care leading to the same travelling and scheduling issues involved with a half day program.
In the public school Full and Half Day Programs, child to teacher ratios are unfortunately drastically higher than those agreed upon as best practices for children under 6 years old. Ratios at public school are 1:20 or higher. At LSM we maintain a 1:8 or 1:10 staff to child ratio.
Why should my child stay at LSM for Senior CASA?
- Seamless days
- Much better child to staff ratios
- Recognized Program – popular in Barrhaven for close to a decade.
- Academic based Curriculum
- No busing or scheduling issues
- No need to look for after school programs
- Tax benefits
- Nurturing and learning needs all met in one place!
- The same renowned LSM Quality!
What are the benefits of attending Senior CASA at LSM?
The LSM Senior CASA Program has been carefully designed to provide your child the “readiness” for public school grade 1 and prepare him/her for future school years as per Ministry of Ontario requirements. LSM Programs allow children to build on their past experience. When the transfer is made before this point, children actually miss the most important part of the Program.
The most important advantage of the LSM Senior CASA Program is our low child to staff ratio. This allows your child to obtain proper preparation for future learning years and a solid foundation in all areas of learning. Success starts early and it is important to ensure your child is well prepared for his/her life-time of learning.
Will I receive an evaluation of my child's progress?
Yes. LSM maintains a Curriculum Objectives Document to monitor the progress of all our Senior CASA members. We provide parents quarterly written evaluations with details on your child’s developments in all subject areas, as well as the opportunity for private parent interviews.
Daily communication between parents and staff, home projects and a Monthly Curriculum posted at the centre will ensure that you are always aware of your child's progress. Our intructors spend a great deal of time with your child in a low ratio setting, really getting to know them and their capabilities. If you have any questions about our program, feel free to contact us.
